On Dear Misses’s fourth full length studio album, the acoustic guitars and custom-made Nudie suits of the previous, Country-influenced album, were hung up. Distorted guitars and wailing fuzz solos are back on the agenda. Analog synthesizers, twelve-string guitars, and distorted bass riffs give the album a rough yet melodic texture. This texture is further embellished with plenty of reverb, delay, as well as lo-fi and reverse effects. With catchy choruses featuring harmony vocals, the band sets musical highlights.The songs on “Cool Down Under” cover a wide range of topics. Socially critical and complex pieces go hand in hand with playful and danceable hits.
